It looks pretty easy to make, but I don’t own a dremel and I gotta get me one, unless I can find someone to borrow from. Dremel can be used on many different projects, so I might as well grab a new one at a homedepot. All in all I’d rate the gopro pole mount a 9 out of 10.
A Dremel is a must have! If you get ones, make sure you get one that plugs in. The battery operated one run out of juice too quickly. Cheers!
I love the simple design and the cost of the whole thing is just superb. I mean it costs only 15 bucks for the entire build. Similar setup that already comes built are sold at about $60 bucks, so at 15 it’s a hefty savings. I could use the 45 bucks savings on a lot of other things, so I’m very happy with the gopro pole mount.
The shots you can get with gopro pole mount is really amazing. You’d think the videos would look very shaky but that’s not the case at all. I wish I would have made one like couple of months back and I would have been able to capture some crazy footage. A little too late, but at least i won’t miss a shot the next time.
This seems awesome! But I am a water sports person so I was wondering what I should so about that! The biggest thing is my clumsyness. I really want it to float! And I really want to avoid spending the $60 on the GoPole brand
Hi emily,
I suggest instead of making something as fancy as this, you should try what I have done, I simply went to my local hardware store a bought a metre long pvc pipe with caps so it is airtight, meaning it floats, and trust me, it does. And in stead of using all those power tools to make it compatible with the GoPro tripod mount, just go and pick up a GoPro handlebar/seatpost mount which fits perfectly on my pvc pipe. It is also removable, so that means your not stuck with that pole forever, and you can of course use it on your bike if you want!
Just a tip for painting the pole, the handle go’s off pretty easy if you put it in hot water, leave it for a couple of minutes and it will slip off, no green painters tape needed anymore 😉
Great tip Bob! Thanks for sharing.
Use stainless steel bolts, washers and wing nuts. FOund at Lowes and Home Depot. Prevent corrosion and rust. Not too expensive
unless you plan using the tripod mount on other surfaces i would suggest using some thread lock ( blue is non perment red is perment) because the threads could back out of the tripod mount. lock washers might prevent this but it will be so tight you might not be able to remove it with your hands
Here are some other options of building a gopro pole.

Love this BTW. What i did with mine after i cut and smashed it. I had some Flex Seal (the infomercial stuff) around my house and sprayed the end with that. It created a nice finish with no jagged edges and a grippier surface. Just my input…
